Personal Branding

Personal Branding

You can go online and find many websites that talk about personal branding. One of my favorites is Dan Schwabel of www.personalbrandingblog.com. I have also worked with the Executive and Leadership Coaching company The Marteney Group of www.themartneygroup.com. I have also gone through the outplacement company of OCM-Lee Hecht Harrison. I have learned a lot about personal branding and applying this to the job search and what you are currently doing. There are four points about personal branding that have impressed me and I am going to go over these.

What is your Value Statement?
Most people associate value statements with their products. A value statement is a brief statement that communicates to the potential client the benefit or value they get when purchasing or using your product. When it comes to a job search or branding yourself, you are the product. The client is the company wanting to hire you. This needs to be tangible and as specific as possible. It must focus on what your client wants and values. It must be the unique benefits you will bring to an employer that others won’t.

You need to ask yourself questions about your previous employment to build your value statement:
- What roles have you filled in your employment?
- What projects or assignments did you complete in these roles?
- What were your main accomplishments?
- How did you fulfill these roles better than anyone else?

By answering these and other questions you can come up with your value statement.

My Value Statement: I lead teams in improving the quality and efficiencies of existing operations and building and growing start-up operations into full capacity.

Who is your Audience?
You need to understand who you audience is. What I mean by audience is who is your customer. Some questions to ask your self are:
- What industry do you currently work in? Are there similar industries that you can cross over into?
- What is the size of the organization do you work well with?
- What problems do these organizations need to have solved?
- What role are you focusing on?

You need to make sure that you understand who is your audience.

My audience: I work with organizations that are dependent upon call centers that need significant performance or operational improvements to compete or grow, regardless of size.

What is unique about your offer?
Most job opportunities are not even listed. They are due to the connections you have. Your connections and the companies they are referring you to want to know what is unique about you. Why will you will chosen over all the other people they will interview. The best way is to break down what is unique into rational and emotional. You want to think about this both rationally and emotionally.

My Uniqueness
Rationally:
- I have grown and optimized three separate successful organizations. I know what I am doing.
- I excel at strategy and tactical implementation.
- I am proficient at assessing customer touch points for process improvements, asking the right questions and innovating to fix the problems.
Emotionally
- I have confidence that is contagious. If the hat is thrown over the wall, I don’t see a wall in my way. I see an opportunity to figure out around the wall and get my hat.
- I am steady.

How do you accomplish your Value Statement?
You need to understand how you accomplish your value statement. This is the part where you get to think of what items you do. You need examples that go along with these. You need to make sure that if you ever say anything that you can back it up with a real experience.

My methods
- I build effective teams by leading the team in creating the vision, establishing objectives, creating accountability, and giving support as needed.
- I increase the quality of customer interactions by fulfilling both the physical and emotional needs of the customer.
- I increase performance and profitability by focusing on sales conversion, client satisfaction and retention and improving operational efficiencies.

By thinking about these four areas you can create your own personal branding and be more successful in your job search or gaining additional opportunities.
